Beware of marketing offers from Construct Data (The Fair Guide) and similar companies – the offers look official and the invoices appear legitimate, but they are not.

Dear exhibitors, it has come to our attention that Expo Guide, S.C. of Mexico (aka the Fair Guide) has been targeting JOGS Gem and Jewelry Show Exhibitors requesting company data updates for an online directory.

By using a form similar to our free catalog listing with J.O.G.S. name, this group is offering advertising space on their Fair Guide (www.fairguide.com) and/or Expo Guide (www.expo-guide.com) websites. If an exhibitor signs the advertising agreement, they can be locked into a non-terminable contract at a significant cost. If you receive a document with J.O.G.S. name on it, please contact our office to confirm it is not a scam.

You can email us at info@jogsshow.com or call us at 213.629.3030

Please be aware of this scam and others. If you have heard of other scams, please contact JOGS Tucson Gem and Jewelry Show right away.

The site, www.stopecg.org, does have information on Expo Guide and other misleading scams.

Permits, Licenses & Taxes

Tucson’s 2.6% and Arizona’s 6.1% sales taxes combine to a total of 8.7%, and it is essential to collect these taxes on all RETAIL transactions, which includes purchases made without a business license. After the show concludes, you must report your wholesale AND retail sales separately and pay the sales taxes to Tucson (City taxes) and Arizona (State taxes). Please note that as per legal requirements, show organizers must provide dealer names and addresses to the taxing authorities.

To ensure compliance with ARIZONA taxes, please visit www.aztaxes.gov to register before the show and file your Arizona sales tax return afterward. Keep in mind that Arizona refers to the tax as “Transaction Privilege Tax” or TPT, so don’t be confused by the terminology.

All exhibitors/dealers, whether wholesale or retail, must obtain a TUCSON Business License for each location where they sell. A Tucson Tax official will visit your booth during the show to issue the license for a fee of $28. They will provide you with a form explaining how to file TUCSON sales taxes.

Wholesale buyers with a business license are exempt from sales tax. However, it is your responsibility as the seller to record the business license information in case of an audit. Failure to provide this information during an audit may result in liability for the 8.7% tax. So, it is crucial to maintain accurate records.

We hope this information helps you navigate the tax requirements successfully. If you have any further questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out to us.

Sellers Using Commercial Scales

If your merchandise is sold by weight, it is vital to ensure that your scale(s) are NTEP approved and registered with the Arizona Department of Weights and Measures (AZDWM). To understand the requirements better, please refer to their Small Scale Brochure v4.0. AZDWM will conduct unannounced visits at the show, and any scales not licensed by the AZDWM and/or lacking NTEP approval are subject to confiscation.
To avoid any complications, we strongly advise you to review your scale’s compliance and take the necessary steps to obtain the proper licensing. For additional information or to request a Device License Package, please get in touch with:
